Beginner Photography workshop Mornington Peninsula

Just finished another epic 2 day 1 on 1 Beginner Photography workshop from my studio here on the Mornington Peninsula

It’s such a buzz to see the smile and satisfaction I can bring to my clients when I help bring together all those confusing Photography elements.

This particular client of mine Alicia is about to embark on a trip to the Amazon, she wants to capture wild life and water falls.

After helping explain the fundamentals of photography ISO, Shutter, Aperture etc I helped guide her on finding the right things to buy. In a methodical manner I helped show her what lenses and camera settings apply to the various shooting situations. I made sure we had a break between sessions giving Alicia time to absorb information and then come back to me with questions. Alicia found Michaels in Melbourne CBD really helpful and I also pointed out another great photography resource DP Review.

Other useful products I like to use are Manfrotto tripods. It is so important to purchase a good sturdy tripod. One that supports your precious equipment. I also love my Black Rapid shoulder strap which is amazing to disperse the weight of your camera evenly across your body.

The beauty of a 1 on 1 Beginner workshop is I can teach my clients at their own pace and really tailor the workshop around their needs. That’s the big benefit of 1 on 1.

On the final day we went out and did some long exposure Beginner photography down on one of the gorgeous Mornington Peninsula beaches. This beach is literally 5 mins from my Mornington Peninsula Photography studio. Conditions were good with an overcast sky so we had nice soft lighting. There was a stiff breeze which gave the water plenty of movement and the clouds were moving relatively quickly. This would help create that moody movement of water.

Alicia had a new lens, tripod and cable release so I helped her gain confidence by providing guidance on how to use these. I took her down to a spot I really like. In Fact one of my award winning pics was taken down at this very spot.

If your like Alicia and want to get the most out of your camera, or maybe you just need some tips and guidance then jump on board one of my Beginner workshops and I will help get you on your way.

  1. I have just completed a 1:1 2 day beginners course with James Harvie which included learning about the camera’s key components, ISO, aperture, depth of field explained and shutter priority mode etc. James sorted through all the technical information and simplified photography; made it so much easier to understand.

I was impressed with James level of knowledge of photography. My settings were explained to me well, and all my questions were answered thoroughly which is a real benefit of having 1:1 lessons. James was full of great tips, tricks and general photography information. I really loved that the tips were easy to understand and no question was too silly. James could advised all the different equipment that would help with my photography and especially items that I would need for my upcoming trip to help with photographing wildlife and waterfalls. We did get a chance to put what we had learnt into practice at a beach close by and I was amazed with the shots we produced.

Now I am looking forward to getting out there and putting what I learnt into action.

Thank you James for a great course.
